Well said, Carol. This is a small part of a volunteer plant that was transplanted 2 years ago and now covers a fifteen foot section of our hillside. The rains this year must be tainted with steroids.

FYI: I just found out that it is considered an invasive non-native species. It is drought-resistant, however, and quite pretty. The hillsides of Sausalito are covered with them. Some of the blooms are the size of elephant trunks.
