Sally D’s Mobile Photography Black and White Challenge

This week I used the ProvokeCamera app on my iPhone 5 to take this photo of the 50-yardline at a local high school football field. I made some edits with the Tonality Pro app and straightened the composition using Snapseed.

I like that you chose just part of the field and having the “50” right in the middle.

Thanks, Janet. I thought that by just using the center of the field everyone could “fill-in” the rest of the story themselves. I am glad to know that it worked. Ω

This could be a totally abstract image. Almost a Mondrian. The texture achieved makes it look like a fine carpet.
Looked again, hey it could be a landing strip for ET Must use an emoji here 🏈

You mentioned that it looks like a carpet. Well, the field is actually artificial turf. I go there on weekends to walk around the track. It is some kind of synthetic material that makes me feel like I am walking on a cloud. I like the ET idea and the emoji. Thanks, Carol. Ω

Will do. These new surfaces are much better than the asphalt tracks of my youth, and Much improved over the old cinder ones.

I love all the lines and angles. You’ve broken up a football field into one interesting quadrant.

Thanks, Angeline. It tickles me that while the 50-yardline gets all of the notoriety, all of the drama happens on either side near the end zones.

I like the implications of your composition: what’s going on beyond the leading line? Is the game in progress? Is the field silent? Is the game about to start? The conversion definitely adds to the image’s appeal. Happy Photo Challenge.

Thanks, Sally, I am glad that you like the photo. This is a multi-use field—one week there might be a soccer game in progress and the next week there might be a Pee-wee football league game. I happened to take this photo in the early morning before a soccer game started up and, as you observed, it was quiet. Ω
