A Portrait of Nature

Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge this week is nature.

30 years ago an acquaintance of mine called a photo like this a “Flower Portrait” and it took until this year for that to sink into my brain. Once I started looking at how light and shadow combined with point-of-view, I made the leap from documenting flowers to portraying them.

Don’t get me wrong, I like a well-focused macro shot of a flower but this year I am having more fun creating portraitures.

I never thought of the difference between documentation and portraiture before!

It is subtle, but it’s there—and just a state-of-mind away. Thanks for joining the discussion.

Allan, truly you have captured the lyricism of the petals and the personality of the rose. Happy Photo Challenge.

Thank you, Sally. This is one of my recent favorites and I am happy that you like it, too.

Portrait of elegant royalty one might say. Breath taking Allan.
