Now

The only real security is not in owning or possessing, not in demanding or expecting, not in hoping, even. Security in a relationship lies neither in looking back to what it was, nor forward to what it might be, but living in the present and accepting it as it is now. —Anne Morrow Lindbergh

The topic for this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is Now. When I think about the subject of ‘now’ I think about my relationship with my little grey squeaky friend.

We adopted her five years ago when she was just seven months old and we were her eleventh home. She had a phobia towards men and avoided me like the Plague. My rotating work schedule seemed to cause a lot of anxiety in her when I was the only person home with her and the Krazy Kalico.

Since I retired last year, and have been around the house on a consistent basis, she has gradually warmed up to me. Squeaky spends several hours a night sprawled across my legs these days. For the past two weeks she begins the evening by walking up my chest and head-butting my chin, then sliding her face along the side of mine.

Patience, love and time seem to be working in our favor and we both enjoy what we have now.

I used the Lowy lens/BlacKeys Supergrain film combination in the Hipstamatic app to take this picture.
