Unlikely…Maybe you can’t predict it, but you can still take a photo of it.

Last Saturday we went to a baseball game and watched the San Jose State Spartans host the New Mexico Lobos at the San Jose Municipal Stadium. We had great seats behind home plate and I proceeded to do what I do at ballgames—take photos.

The image below is a confluence of unlikely events: a runner attempting to steal second base; the shortstop racing to cover the play; a rifle-shot throw from the catcher to the second baseman; the pitcher on the mound ducking under the throw; the ball in mid-flight, centered in a square of netting against a dark background. Yes, the Spartan runner was tagged out.

The Lobos played well, but lost a close 5—4 contest to the Spartans. There’s always next year.
