…share with us the structure of something typically overlooked.
—WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Structure
Swing shift sunsets gave me a chance to appreciate the quiet majesty of the Golden Gate Bridge South Approach Tower. This is the base of the structure that supports the roadway leading onto the bridge.
Beautiful structure.

Allan, it’s a strong image with angles and lines pulling me into the design.

Thanks, Sally. It is a larger-than-life jungle gym and the sheer scale of the individual parts is humbling.

I like the way the colors of the bridge mimic those of the clouds in the background. Purposely, I’m sure, right? 🙂

Good question, Janet. The International Orange color was selected because it would blend with the nearby hills and contrast with the ocean and sky. The fact that it mimics the sunlight in the clouds is an added bonus in my book.
Here is a link to an article in the GGB Research Library about the selection of the color for the steel: http://goldengatebridge.org/research/factsGGBIntOrngColor.php
