Friday Fictioneers: Not So Mellow Yellow

Over at the Addicted to Purple blog, Rochelle has challenged us to write a story of ±100 words based on this photograph.

Not So Mellow Yellow
Genre: Fiction
Word Count: 100

“Big Bird can kick Barney’s ass!”

Appropriate words for children playing with action figures. A dour prediction when it involves a loved one.

Glenda’s ex-husband, Harvey, surprised everyone when he showed up at the birthday party dressed as a purple dinosaur.

Surrounded by a dozen excited nine-year olds playing a game of musical chairs, her new boyfriend, Jeff, was the hit of the party in his large yellow bird costume.

Overwhelmed by bitter emotions and a sense of loss, Harvey could see in Jeff the thrill that comes with the discovery of a new love.

Glenda dialed 911.

I am joining the new Constructive Criticism sub-group with this post and look forward to the feedback.

You knocked my (non-yellow) socks off. Glenda dialed 911 – love it!

She helped me cross the finish line with 100 words. I couldn’t have done it without her. Thanks for your comment, Julie.

    Dear Allan,

Clever take on the prompt and a unique one at that. Well done.
