Fiction in 50: A Calculated Risk

Once again, Bruce has challenged us to craft a story using fewer than 51 words. I am joining him with a school-based theme for this month’s topic.

Title: A Calculated Risk
Word Count: 50

The top of the South Tower brushed the eastbound clouds five hundred feet above us.

Hank said, “It looks pretty damn windy up there.”

I continued adjusting the straps on my safety harness. “If we are lucky we’ll be down before it gets too bad.”

Class was now in session.

You’d think, being a gargoyle, that I’d be comfortable with heights. Nope! Your story sent a shiver down my spine!!

I guess that is the difference between theory and practice. Thanks, Bruce.
