Spring Fever

Today was one of those days. It was absolutely gorgeous at the Golden Gate Bridge and my co-worker and I got the opportunity to climb up the Main Cable on the East Backspan of the South Tower to replace a lamp in one of the Cable Outline Lights.

After we were done, I stopped on the return trip to take this photograph. Enjoy.

Windows: Week 11

“While the old fort [Fort Point] has no military value now, it remains nevertheless a fine example of the mason’s art. Many urged the razing of this venerable structure to make way for modern progress. In the writer’s view it should be preserved and restored as a national monument…” —Chief Engineer Joseph Strauss, in a 1937 memorandum to the Golden Gate Bridge’s Board of Directors

I took this photo at San Francisco’s Ft. Point. Cannons were originally aimed through these porthole windows, but now they are bricked-in and their metal shutters are a rusty reminder of days past and the power of nature.
