Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Colorful Monotone

This week Cee asks us to post some photos that have a ‘Monotone Color Scheme’, and she defined this as follows, “…This scheme, sometimes called monotonal, uses one color, and one color only, with little variation in value or saturation. That is, lighter and darker variations on the color are not part of the overall scheme, nor are duller or brighter variations of that color.”

I turned to some photos I took during some of our trips to trips to New Mexico. I am a big proponent of shadows and highlights in photographs and the last part of the definition was a  particular challenge for me. Enjoy!

Story Challenge: Letter “U”

This is a photo of some of the Ironworker’s erecting a suspended work platform underneath the Golden Gate Bridge. A white plastic containment area is being built on the platform so that the painters can strip paint off the steel and repaint the bottom of the bridge without harming any passersby.

These guys are ‘working without a net’ to keep the bridge safe for everyone who travels over it.

Sunday Post: Architecture

Built  in 1891, Battery Marcus Miller is an example of the military architecture of a gun battery. Located on the coastal bluffs next to the Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza, Battery Marcus Miller had three gun emplacements for 10-inch “disappearing carriage” cannons which had a range of seven miles. The guns were in place and operational by 1897 and the Battery was declared obsolete in 1918 and all weapons were removed.

Battery Marcus Miller is open to the public with access via Lincoln Blvd to Merchant Road. There is parking available in a lot on Merchant Road and a Coastal Trail runs adjacent to the site. This place is built to take a hit (pun intended) and photo opportunities abound.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Photograph Something New

This week Cee has challenged us to post a photo of anything that we have photographed this week. Here is a shot of the clock on top of the Toll Plaza on the south end of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Two Cents Tuesday Challenge: Pressure

This week we are taking one more closeup look at a crushed bridge beam for the Pressure Challenge. You can click here to get the story on how/why this beam was subjected to such an enormous pressure. Suffice it to say, it was only a test and valuable information was gathered.
