Wow! Just a really neat video. I remember my 2 treks across the GGB from the city in bright sunshine and returning from Marin County with the bridge shrouded in fog. That return was a leap of faith that the bridge was still there. Again thanks for sharing.

On southbound trips like the one you described I liked to imagine that I was driving into the mouth of a large beast, hidden in the fog where the bridge should be. It added a lot to the mystery of the large white fog bank.

Absolutely loved the video Allan – lots of things there I didn’t know. I’d often wondered why it was painted orange. I also read recently something about the number of people who have jumped from the bridge and that it’s the lowest survival rate of any other bridge. Not surprising but a few have lived. Anyway, it’s an amazing feat. I cannot imagine how difficult the construction must have been. Thanks for sharing this one.

You are welcome, Tina. The construction of the bridge was an amazing feat. I recently found a video by the late Charles Kuralt who interviewed some of the bridgemen just before the 50th Anniversary in 1987. They were a breed apart, that’s for sure. Thanks for your comments.

Always love the facts like enough to build a sidewalk … maybe it’s worth the toll raise

There’s a lot of changes to the Toll Plaza coming in the next few years. Time to start squirreling away $.

I noticed the clocks are gone on the toll booths.

The Plaza clock is still on top of the roof, but I don’t remember any clocks on the booths themselves.
