June 25, 1950 — The Korean War started as forces from the communist North invaded the South. It lasted till 1953.

    The outbreak of the Korean War changed our family’s plans. The Air Force had issued transfer orders to Japan for my dad including the family. With the war, he went, we stayed. My earliest memory of the old man was a black and white photo of him wearing a leather flight jacket, in front of a quonset hut in Korea holding a .45. Unlike 35,000 other GI’s and over a million Koreans and Chinese, Dad came home. Still wonder what it would have been like to live in Japan as a kid.
