April 26, 1986 — The world’s worst nuclear accident occurred in Pripyat, Ukraine, north of Kiev, at 1:23 a.m. when the Chernobyl atomic power plant exploded. A 300-hundred-square-mile area was evacuated and 31 people died and unknown thousands were exposed to radioactive material that spread in the atmosphere throughout the world.

    I remember that day well – I went to Circuit Training on that evening, and after the class we had a big discussion about Secondary Containment in reactors…..
