March 13, 1962 — Lyman Lemnitzer, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, delivers a proposal to Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, called Operation Northwoods, regarding performing terrorist attacks upon Guantanamo Bay Naval Base and blaming it on the Cuban government in order to justify a war against Cuba. The proposal is scrapped and President John F. Kennedy removes Lemnitzer from his position.

    It was a real shame that JFK wasn’t allowed to finish his term. The world would have been a different place.
