Hey, Bud

The topic for Sally’s photo challenge this week is nature and this is not that type of bud.

I used the Hipstamatic app (Elijah Lens, Radama Film, and Triple Crown Flash) to capture a flowering bud on an Echium plant during a walk in Corte Madera, CA.

Echium Candicans are a drought-tolerant plant that is considered an invasive species here in Northern California. The Lioness and I both enjoy their purple splendor and camel-like ability to make it through the 4-year drought.

I like the angle of the photo – it gives the feel of the insistent burst of life in spring.

And Hummingbirds like it. Photos so sharp you could use it to attract them.

Thanks, Carol. These iPhone cameras rock, AND they work well as a cellphone!

The kind of buds we’d all like to have.

I just love a shot of Pride of Mediera. Saw my first on the Bolinas cliffs in the early 80s. Ours are just about to pop. Great rendering.

Thanks, Tom. A few years back we saw some in Sausalito with blooms the size of elephant trunks. They were easily 8—10 feet long!

What a sweet beauty, and I bet the hummingbirds adore them. Hipstamatic did it again. Oh, and you did too. Happy Photo Challenge.
