The Last Ocean

“The Ross Sea, Antarctica is the most pristine stretch of ocean on Earth. A vast, frozen landscape that teems with life – whales, seals and penguins carving out a place on the very edge of existence. …an international fishing fleet has recently found its way to the Ross Sea. It is targeting Antarctic toothfish, sold as Chilean sea bass in up-market restaurants around the world. …The catch is so lucrative it is known as white gold.” The Last Ocean website

Here is a trailer for an interesting documentary:

Allan, the tears welled and could not be held back. I’m an environmentalist and naturalist, and human intervention on this planet is staggering.

Thank you, Sally. I was most surprised/disappointed by the duplicity of re-naming the Toothfish as Chilean Sea Bass. I hope that the Commercial interests are stopped on this frontier.

This place should be off-limits, but, of course, it never will be. It’s always about the almighty buck. When it’s all gone, how will we explain it to our grandchildren? Sorry, but there was money to be made? Thanks, gramps.

Nothing is sacred. They will hunt down every last spot on earth to pillage for profit!
