“…pick something, anything  – It’s up to You.”
Two Cents Tuesday Challenge: It’s up to you…

Ahhhh, breathing room. A challenge where I can pick a subject from a list of possibilities, and I choose: Random.

I am very familiar with random, much of my life’s experiences are based on it; more so than with planning, premeditation and following rules— but those are topics for another time.

Last week we were up on the West Main Cable of the GGB when a small helicopter flew over us. My partner and I watched it as we made our way up the cable to replace the lamp in Cable Light #2 West. I looked at my watch and realized that a mutual friend of ours was supposed to be taking photos of a ship from a helicopter about this time of day. I mentioned this fact as we finished our ascent and caught our breath before working on the light fixture.

We watched the helicopter as it moved around the gathering fog bank. The more it positioned itself at various heights and distances from the fog, the more certain I became that we were watching Wild Bill getting ready to take some photos.

As if to answer the question in our minds, the long, low, deep sound of a ship’s fog horn bellowed out a warning. That’s it! That’s gotta be the ship, that’s gotta be Bill!! We finished replacing the lamp and waited for the ship to emerge from the mist.

What happened next was an aerial ballet as the helicopter darted and hovered, ascended and banked into new positions. I tried to imagine what was going on in the aircraft as Wild Bill directed the pilot in a constantly moving attempt to get the right light, the best angle and the correct exposure of a ship in a sea of fog.

I took a few photos of the scene before us and the one below will give you an idea of what it looked like to a spectator. The tiny black speck above, and to the right, of the small boat is  the helicopter. Enjoy.

I don’t have the foggiest idea where this random helicopter is. You say spec, but when I clean my screen all the specs disappear, so I spec not. Seriously Al, how do you get off that bridge in the fog?

      Hello Al

The helicopter is approximately at the 2 o’clock position from the boat below the ship.

As far as getting off the bridge cable goes, we walk down the same way we walked up. It works in fair weather or foul (foul is more fun).

Wow! I am always left amazed by the random ballet of events that lead us to things – thanks for your entry. It is interesting that you mention the constraints of these challenges and how they don’t leave us alot of breathing room – you have given me an idea and I just might I tailor two cents tuesday to take that into consideration…

I am looking forward to fewer constraints and breathing room. I had an unfortunate experience with a photo/social network last week and ended up canceling my page.

Between EyeEm and some WordPress challenges my desire to share photos is being nourished. Thanks for providing an outlet for us with your Two Cent Challenges.

You are most welcome. I know that feeling… I have been having a hard time keeping up with all these things and find that much of it makes demands that I don’t like, don’t want to read/see and generally just pisses me off – gotta keep things simple and rewarding…
