Inspiration — Why I Blog

WordPress has asked the question, What inspires you to blog?, and requested a photo of us engaged in that activity.

I began blogging to share my experiences as an electrician who has worked his way across the U.S. over the course of 44+ years. What I discovered was that I had a multitude of experiences and interests along the way that came forth from the shadows of my memory bank once I started opening up and sharing my life.

Photography and art have been passions of mine for years, but they were pushed aside for too long by work and lifestyle responsibilities. I am finding more time to indulge in those pursuits and it has added an extra shot of joy into my life. In short, blogging has given me a chance to connect with myself and share that person with the world.

The photo below was taken by my co-worker, Jim, in March of 2001. I have very few photos of myself and this one is one of my favorites.

Life as an electrician doesn’t get any better than this.

Please tell Jim for me also what a great shot that is. You look so relaxed and comfortable up there. A climb like that would terrify me. Is it dangerous? What if it’s windy?

I will pass along your thoughts to Jim tomorrow when I see him. As far as danger goes, it is dangerous if you fall. If it is too windy we don’t go up on the cable unless there is a dangerous situation that requires immediate attention, but we are good to go with wind speed up to about 25 mph. It is the unexpected gusts of wind at any speed that create a challenge.

Thanks, Tina. The bridge in Sydney looks like it would be fun to walk across.
