Sunday Post: Bridge

My entry in Jake’s challenge this week is a bit less obvious than you might expect for someone who works on a bridge. I am working a Day shift now and enjoying the sunshine, and the shadows.

This is looking South—down the backspan of the West Main Cable—over the shoulder of my partner one day last week. The shadow of the Fort Point Arch, and the fort itself, are accented in the early morning light.

Perspective

“…Perspective photography distortion is determined by the relative distances at which the image is captured and viewed, and is due to the angle of view of the image (as captured) being either wider or narrower than the angle of view at which the image is viewed, hence the apparent relative distances differing from what is expected…” —Jake’s Sunday Post: Perspective

I took this photo in San Francisco at Ft. Point.

‘Sentimental Value’ is Freshly Pressed

Freshly Pressed? Again? WordPress selected my post, Sunday Post: Sentimental Value, and featured it on the Freshly Pressed page today. I am honored by their choice and I extend my thanks to those involved in the process. I also want to thank Jake over at Sunday Post for the topic that inspired me to write about something that had sentimental value. Images have always…

Sunday Post: Entrance

“Entrance generally refers to the place of entering like a gate or door, or the permission to do so.” —Jake’s Sunday Post

Sunday Post: Bay

“A bay is a large body of water connected to an ocean or sea formed by an inlet of land due to the surrounding land blocking some waves and often reducing winds…”

When humid air from the Pacific Ocean passes over the cold California current that flows parallel to the coast, Advection Fog is formed. The fog hugs the surface and then the warm, moist air condenses as it moves into the bay. The color of the Golden Gate Bridge is International Orange, chosen in part because of its visibility in the fog.

This is a photo of San Francisco’s signature fog pouring into San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean.
