Blast From the Past — 1934

Transit cars speeding overhead at 100 mph? That was Joseph Strauss’ proposed solution to the expected traffic problems in San Francisco caused by the increased numbers of automobiles crossing into the city from the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges.

We ended up with Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) train cars above, and below, ground instead.

    There is talk of overhead rail in Oakland for the A’s new park.
