A bridge that has morphed so much since its original design, and a beautiful one — great reminder, Allan, of the “other bridge” and its importance.

Thanks for your comment, Jet. I have spent much of my time over the last 6 months researching the construction of the GGB and the SF—Oakland Bay Bridge. My former dim view of the Bay Bridge began to turn around when I read a quote by Al Zampa—a legendary Bay Area ironworker who worked on both bridges—where he said that the Bay Bridge was his favorite for many reasons. How could Al be so wrong? Who am I to judge?

As it turns out, he had a good point and during my research I can begin to see what he was talking about. I will be adding stories to my “Piece of Work” series and touch on some points of interest. Both structures are unique in their own right.
